24V System FAQ'S
Q: What is the difference between the 24V system and the 36V system?
The main difference is the voltage, which affects wire gauge, power injection distance, and overall installation layout.
24V System
-Uses 20 AWG wire
-Can run up to 100 feet total before power injection is required
36V System
-Uses 18 AWG wire
-Can run up to 200 feet per port before power injection is required
Because the 36V system runs higher voltage and thicker wire, it allows for longer runs with less voltage drop, meaning fewer injection points on larger homes.
Q: How can I tell the 24V system and 36V system apart?
There are two quick ways to identify the system:
Packaging Color
-24V → Silver bags
-36V → Blue bags
Wire Markings
-24V system uses 20 AWG
-36V system uses 18 AWG
You can find the wire gauge printed directly on:
-The light strand
-Extension cables
-Accessories
If you see 20 AWG, you’re working with 24V.
If you see 18 AWG, you’re working with 36V.
Q: When power injecting with the 24V system, what wire gauge should I use?
Wire size depends on injection distance:
-Under 125–150 feet → Use 16 AWG
-150–250 feet → Use 14 AWG
